Paul Brackley reports on recently published work from the Linterman lab which suggests that limiting inflammation when older adults receive the 'flu vaccine may improve vaccine efficacy. The study compared immune responses across people of different ages after seasonal influenza vaccination. Dr Linterman and her team were able to show that a particular type of white blood cell, circulating T follicular helper cells, are linked with good influenza antibody responses in younger people. But that in people over 65, the formation of these cells upon vaccination is reduced compared to younger individuals.
