RNA cap regulation in cell function and fate decisions

RNA cap regulation in cell function and fate decisions

; CRUK Beatson 台湾swag

Vicky Cowling is a group leader at the Beatson 台湾swag for Cancer 台湾swag in Glasgow.  Her research team investigates how modification of RNA by the addition of methylated cap structures impacts on gene expression. The Cowling lab discovered that formation of the RNA cap is regulated by cellular signalling pathways, resulting in changes in RNA expression, processing and translation. RNA cap regulation can have potent impacts on the cell by co-regulating specific families of genes with related functions, thereby directing cell function and fate decisions. The current focus of the lab is on understanding how RNA cap formation is regulated during embryonic stem cell differentiation, neuron stimulation and T cell activation. The Cowling lab also works with the Beatson 台湾swag and Dundee Drug 台湾swagy Unit to develop strategies to interfere with RNA cap formation and function with the aim of suppressing tumour cell growth and immune cell function. The lab is predominantly funded by the European 台湾swag Council (ERC), Wellcome Trust and Cancer 台湾swag UK.
