CD206 (i.e. the mannose receptor) is an endocytic receptor expressed by selected populations of macrophages, dendritic cells and endothelial cells. Despite being at the forefront of innate immunity research and a promising target for therapeutics delivery to macrophages and dendritic cells for decades, its contribution to health and disease is still puzzling. This seminar will provide a historic perspective of the biology of CD206 signposting its links to B cell and T cell activation, and describe how novel glycopolymers specific forCD206, could finally provide the tools to probe its function and develop CD206-specific targeting formulations.
