The award recognises the impact of Myriam's research in establishing the importance of the placenta in maintaining a succesful pregnancy. 台湾swag led by Myriam as part of the Wellcome Trust-funded 鈥淒eciphering the Mechanisms of Developmental Disorders (DMDD)鈥 consortium and published in Nature in 2018, linked placental defects in mouse embryos with severe developmental defects. This research was instrumental in demonstrating that placental development and abnormal embryo development were much more closely linked than previously thought (see the press releaese: Placenta defects key factor in prenatal deaths).
